Our class will venture to Blue Jay Point County Park April 28th through April 29th. We have taken Washington fifth graders for the past fifteen or so years and have found this to be one of the highlights of our year. The park is located on Fall Lake just off Six Forks road. We will leave school around 9:30, just after announcements and return after lunch on the next day. Our accommodations are state of the art. The lodge overlooks the lake with a fireplace, bunk beds, large kitchen (with an electric dish washer!), and nice clean bathrooms. While at the park we go on nature walks, study plants and animals, study the stars, play games, and eat, eat, eat!! The cost for transportation and Blue Jay Point Classes conducted by staff is $15.00. In addition, a fee of $1.00 will be assessed for owl pellets making the total for this portion of the trip $16.00. Please make checks payable to Washington.
We are going to need your help and participation in order to make this a memorable experience for the students. Our class will not collect additional money for food, but ask parents to be responsible for and send in food- including cooked and baked items, snacks- store bought and home-made, vegetables, and fruits. Please sign up to donate food (next week’s Monday Folder). Confirmations will be in the Monday Folder at a later date. Thanks in advance for your support!!J
Before we leave I feel I need to clarify my expectations. For the next few weeks I expect the students to handle themselves in a manner that reassures me that our trip will be safe and fun. If anyone fails to handle themselves in a proper fashion in the next few weeks or while at the park, you as parents or guardians will be requested to stay and chaperone / supervise your child or return to school / home with your child. I am sure this will not be a problem as I look forward to all of us having a wonderful time together.
Please look over and complete the attached form. Parent volunteers planning on staying at any point during our stay will need to complete a volunteer verification form in the office and must have received their volunteer number before our departure. I’m going to need an emergency contact phone number even if you’re staying with us. Remember, I expect the students to behave as they should at school. If the need arises for a child to be taken home early, I will call.
This is a wonderful trip and I would love to have you and your family join us for dinner during our stay.
Please fill out the back portion and return to Mr. Shaw
